If you haven’t relaxed in a rustic style home, be sure to take the opportunity the next time it is presented to you. Just be prepared for pure relaxation. Rustic style homes are notorious for giving you that nature feeling cabin experience. If you are one who enjoys spending your free time camping outdoors, fishing, relaxing next to a forest fire, than the rustic style home may be your cup of tea.

Lots of Wood!

What makes the rustic style home unique is its vast variety of different types of wood and stone combinations. As you can see in the images, choosing one type of wood is contrary to what you see in rustic designs. Don’t be afraid to have 2-4 different types of wood types in the environment. For example, in a rustic style home you may see a combination of redwood oak floors, mahogany wood walls, and lumberjack hickory furniture. The inconsistency of wood type is what gives the environment its natural outdoors feeling.

When choosing your wood looking material, you have several different options. Beginning from most expensive to least expensive you have: real wood, laminate, wood looking tiles, and vinyl. All are excellent choices and will achieve the same objective. Although, when choosing your material be sure to research into all the pros and cons of each.

Lots of Stone!

Stone is another staple of the rustic style home. Generally speaking, you are most likely to find stone fireplaces or redbrick for the design of the fireplace. Large stone is most popular, but small stone will do just fine. Stone Slates are an excellent option if your fireplace has already been built with regular drywall. Stone slate installation is similar to that of tile. Simply add a layer of thinset and place the stone slate on top and let it dry. When finished you have what looks like a stone built fireplace.

Rustic Style Countertops

Again, more wood and stone. Rustic style countertops are either made of wood or granite stone. Any type of wood will work just fine. As far as choosing a stone countertop, generally speaking you will most likely find brown tones as the colors of choice for a rustic style home. Brown tones blend in very well with any type of wood or stone.

Rustic Tile Floors

A popular tile choice for a rustic style home would be travertine tile. Travertine provides the nature feel given that it has a porous texture and harsh stone look surface. The edges are not smooth which give it more of an outdoors floor look. Travertine typically comes in several shades of brown, which is a perfect for the rustic home.
